Protect your spaces from the dengue mosquito

According to the Pan American Health Organization, a new epidemic period of dengue has been recorded recently in Latin America and the Caribbean. In the first seven months of 2019, about 2 million people have contracted the disease and 723 have died. This, due to the combination of several factors, such as weather, inappropriate waste management and the incredible adaptability of the disease-transmitting mosquito, Aedes aegypti.

This mosquito transmits the dengue virus and that virus has four serotypes, which are found in all of Latin America. Mexico is among the ten countries that have registered more cases of dengue. On the other hand, the sector of the population that has been most affected with this epidemic outbreak are those under 15 years of age.

The call is to carry out optimal domestic and community sanitation. That is, with simple but blunt measures, the creation of mosquito larvae hatcheries can be avoided. We must dispose of obsolete objects that are prone to water accumulations such as:

• Cans
• Bottles
• Drums
• Unused tires
• Avoid using vases with water, for now.

By preventing the accumulation of water, the generation of the favorable environment, in which the mosquito breeding cycle occurs, is prevented. Of course, you have to use appropriate repellents and mosquito screens.
