From May 14th to 17th, 2015, the Sanofi Summit was held in Cancun, Quintana Roo to teach people disease prevention, improve their quality of life and reduce health costs.
This event was held for the third consecutive year bringing specialists together from Mexico, Spain, the United States, Italy and Switzerland, among others, to release the figures for various diseases in our country. For example, the first cause of death in Mexico is cardiovascular disease and the third is cancer. Multiple sclerosis is the leading cause of disability among young adults.
However, when Joann Blessing Moore, Resident Medical of the Center Stanford University, spoke about asthma and allergies, she said allergy cases have become more acute in the United States and other parts of the world due to climate change which is altering pollination cycles and "pollen tsunamis" are expected, which would increase the number of people with allergies.
"Climate change has been challenging the issue of allergies in terms of quantity and species of pollen. Expect to see storms such as pollen tsunamis that will complicate the management of patients with allergies and asthma," she warned.
"In California (USA) alone, this year has been challenging; the pollen season started early and has been long. In the future there may be changes, plants will survive the drought and modify their pollen," she said.
The specialist added that common allergy and asthma symptoms are nasal congestion, difficulty sleeping and lack of air when an activity is performed.
Children are the most affected by these diseases, mostly because asthma occurs more frequently in the first years of life, but that does not mean that it is not manifested in adulthood.
